About Síle

My name is Síle Marrinan, a fine art photographer based in Connecticut, USA. Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland I remain deeply connected with the place I still call home.  Síle is a Gaelic language first name and is pronounced shee + la. Difficult at first to pronounce, my name is a connection with Ireland that I am always happy to explain.

Always having been a creator I took to photography when my kids were little. Through photography, I have explored topics relating to childhood and the transience of time (these fine art works can be found at silemarrinan.com). My work here at Silephoto.com is distinguished by a more free-flowing sense of letting go where I respond to movement and mood using color, texture and form with a more painterly vision.

These images are inspired by my three children who have competed in downhill ski racing since they were little. The determination and grace under pressure of all the young competitors fills me with awe and a desire to capture their energy in an artistic form. In sharing these images I hope to provide space for contemplation where the viewer may recall a moment that took their breath away.

Largely self-taught, I have studied various aspects of photography at the International Center of Photography, New York City, Silvermine Arts Center in Connecticut and at Vantage Points Art Education.  I am an active member of The Carriage Barn Arts Center in Connecticut and Griffin Museum of Photography in Massachusetts and exhibit regularly their group exhibitions.
